COMMUNITY GROUP QUESTIONS

1. Why do you think we are so bad at offering comfort to other people?  What do you think is our hope when we bow out and do not take up the responsibility to comfort those in trials or suffering?  How does 2 Corinthians 1:4 help us think through this biblically?

2. Oftentimes, when people try to comfort others, they fail because instead of comforting, they ruin the person’s heart further with things such as irreverent babble, platitudes, or other shallow things.  How is simply communicating love (2 Corinthians 2:4) the best thing we can offer?

3. Read 2 Corinthians 1:5-9.  Why should the message we must communicate be endurance rather than: making promises of healing, implying hope of overcoming this struggle in this life, or some other immediate hope of relief?

4. Since our ultimate hope of comforting others is the promise they have in relieved eternal suffering, how would you talk to someone in such a way that communicates hope in Christ, though they feel there is no hope in this life?
